About the Yarn Stores

Can't decide which amazing LYS is your favourite? Need information on a yarn store you've been meaning to visit for the first time? Like a reminder on which stores take part in the TTC Knitalong?

Here is a brief description for each store participating in the 2017 event.  In addition, you will see the route stops for each store, and the charity knit drops that they support.  For each drop off, you will receive a raffle ticket from your team captain.


Creative Yarns

Looking for that special skein to make unique socks, or a shawl from silk and linen? Then Creative Yarns is the store for you. A cozy store, with sofas and armchairs to relax on, and knowledgeable staff to help you with your current project waits for you. Be inspired by the hanging collection of fine works from Nina Klecki, or something from their collection of fine pattern books for sale. You’ll find many natural fibres here, with merino, wool, superwash, and silk being in high demand.

Participants will receive a 15% discount on all regular priced yarn.

Eweknit

A boutique filled with the finest hand-picked yarns and fabrics, Eweknit is a multi-crafter's heaven. The staff are happy to guide you through all pieces of your projects, and can recommend the best notions to add that personal touch. They also have excellent kits for that easy to travel knitting spot in your queue. Unlike many stores, Eweknit also carries their own embroidery patterns, something that is slowly making a come back for crafters of all mediums. Bring your whole project list with you to this new location of Eweknit!

The Knit Cafe

Out in Parkdale, The Knit Café nestles quiet and inviting. Fine yarns rub shoulders with old favourites. Are you looking for the perfect nerdy yarn? Knit Cafe carries the best from Turtlepurl, like their yarn inspired by Star Trek. With patterns available on Ravelry, there is always inspiration looming around the Café.

Knit-O-Matic

Just south of Bathurst and St. Clair, the decorated windows of Knit-O-Matic welcome you inside. The walls are lined with inspiration and ideas for new and interesting projects. If you crochet, knit, felt, do roving, or do a combination of all of them, they have the yarn and supplies, and even the books that you will need for the next creation on your list. They have your standard go-to yarns like Cascades and Lily and Cream, and unique yarns, like Mineville Wool Project, made in Canada. Bring your needles and your questions, and grab a seat at Knit-O-Matic’s large table, and join the fun!

Passionknit

Hidden treasures await you in the little nooks of Passionknit. Whether it’s patterns from designers you may not have seen before, or a box full of buttons to fiddle through, they are a shop that deserves a thorough search. Quality and beauty mark their chosen stock, with an eye for colour and daring. Want an environmentally friendly hand dyed yarn? They have it. Want to use a super bulky colour explosion? They have that, too! Natural fibres are more prominent, but there are a few blends of man-made and plant based fibres available as well.

Porch Swing Yarnsomniacs

A new member of the yarn community is right up on Eglinton Avenue West. They are happy to bring in Canadian yarns, like The Yarns of Rhichard Devrieze. Looking to make unique socks and baby items? Mini Mochi by Crystal Palace Yarns will yield "fraternal twin" items. Want a splash of awesome colour? Botany Lace, by Araucania will give your needles a boost of vibrant colours that will brighten any project bags.

The Purple Purl

Drink and Knit at the Purple Purl! A warm, comfy shop with an eclectic collection of drinks and nibbles, the Purl (as it’s affectionately called) invites you to stay a row or five and chatter with the staff. They are proud to carry Canadian yarns, as well as several old time favourites.

Refreshments provided and 10% off regularly priced merchandise with a few surprise extra specials items! Plus a free gift with purchase for TTC-KAL participants. We will also have a fun door prize raffle for each team on our route.

Romni Wools

In the heart of down town is Romni - a store you can easily get lost in! Well organized little cubbies go on forever with every fiber that you could want or imagine. Silk and Merino   sit alongside Linen, Milk, Seacell, and BFL. Looking for fibers, or roving materials? They have those in stock as well. Want to compliment the perfect yarn with the perfect buttons? Their wacky collection of buttons leaves no sweater closure behind. Plan ahead for what you want,  as the bargain basement is full of hidden treasures.

The Yarn Guy


Looking for large qualities of yarn at unbeatable prices? Looking for one or two skeins of a yarn that your LYS can’t get anymore due to being out of stock? Look no farther than The Yarn Guy. Whether you are making an afghan or a lace doily, he has it in stock and for an unbeatable price. Most of his yarns are available by the bag, ensuring dye lot matches for those large projects. Direct from factory means that he has yarn that, while not brand labeled, is still of the same high quality as the rest of his stock. You’ll find mostly acrylics, cottons and mixes of wool and man-made supplies, great for those every day use projects. Don’t forget, if you sew or quilt, he has supplies for that, too, and a wide range of machines for all skill levels.

Yarns Untangled 

Nestled in the heart of Kensington Market, Yarns Untangled is one of the newer members of the TTC KAL. They are a craft boutique, with a keen eye for local and Canadian yarns. Looking for a yarn that has barely traveled to get to you? They now stock Blue Brick Killarnet Sock yarn, dyed right here in Toronto! If you want to go a little farther, Nova Scotia team The Mineville Wool Project have a beautiful Merino DK line that is sure to be in a lot of baskets and queues this summer.
